Azam TV

Azam Media is a part of the Bakhresa Group and is one of the largest media houses in Tanzania, with six channels broadcasting 24 hours a day. As smartphone penetration is increasing in East Africa substantially every year, we recommended that Azam Media increase their presence online. This was done by launching a new website portal and mobile app, through which the four channels of Azam Media could be viewed LIVE. This would be available on iOS and Android devices and also reach out to their audiences, not just in their home country, but also in Rwanda, Uganda and Kenya.

Our Solution

OTT solution for 6 channels

Our team provided a state-of-the art OTT solution to Azam Media. For the first time, encrypted streams for Azam Media’s 6 channels can be viewed LIVE on the app and website. This is one of the first OTT services in the East African region.

Payment Gateway

The app incorporates a user-friendly and secure payment gateway to subscribe to the live streaming of the channels, thereby allowing users to seamlessly watch video content on all their devices.

Dual Language Website and App

The digital platform was designed and developed as an intuitive, dual language (Swahili and English) website and mobile apps for Azam Media. An extremely user friendly and powerful browser-based content management system (CMS) was built to push content to both website and mobile apps simultaneously.

Push Notification Engine

A customised engine has been developed that pushes out notifications to users based on their preferences.

On-site training on CMS

In-depth training was conducted by the staff of Azam Media on all modules of the CMS and how it can be used to power content on the app and website.

What Was Unique

6 channels, 1 device

For the first time, people will experience next-generation mobile TV without diminishing the traditional broadcast experience. With our OTT solutions, Azam TV content opened to whole new avenues.

Content Integration with Magnaquest for subscriber management system

We integrated the mobile app with Azam Media’s existing subscriber management system (Magnaquest) which looks after the aspects of subscriber management and billing at Azam Media’s DTH services. This integration allowed the existing subscribers to view content on their mobile devices and also renew subscriptions. Non-subscribers could also pay and subscribe.

Personalization – Sports and News

The app allows for users to personalise their screens (News or Sports) to receive personalised feed and notifications, thus ensuring higher user engagement and return traffic.

Website & CMS, Down To Earth

Down to Earth is an Indian science and environment fortnightly, established by the Society for Environmental Communications. The magazine informs people about environmental threats facing India and the world.

Our team worked to design and develop the Down to Earth (DTE) website. They had two primary requirements. One – to met the demands of a news portal in terms of quick publishing and distribution. Two – to make related, good quality content bubble up from the magazine archives on the website and every time a story is published, thus making the user’s content experience more complete using the already existing comprehensive archives of articles from the magazine.

Our Role

  • Design and develop a news and magazine portal
  • Create a brand new customised CMS
  • SEO for the site
